Thai Massage Makes You Both Relaxed And Energized

If you have gone to get a massage recently, you might have been overwhelmed by the many choices of types from which to choose. Some therapies are new while others have been around for a long time and are just experienced renewed popularity. One such therapy that is becoming newly discovered is Thai massage, often referred to as Thai yoga massage.

Thai massage has its roots in the Buddhist temples of Thailand. It was performed by the Buddhist monks and nuns as part of their spiritual practice. Like Buddhism, it had its roots in India and, as such, its focus is on opening up the energy of the body, or prana.

Prana is thought to flow in lines, much like the acupuncture meridians of Chinese medicine. Through the Thai yoga massage, the practitioner helps to open up any blockages in those energetic lines. Once the balance of energy is restored, the client feels better as a whole and also may see improvement in any present medical conditions.

This therapy is called yoga because it actually has more in common with a type of assisted yoga than it does with what we normally think of when we hear the word massage. The main part of this treatment is stretching and, to achieve this, the practitioner will put the client into the yoga poses. The stretching is just one way that blockages in the energy are able to be opened.

Acupressure also plays a part in this therapy. By applying pressure to certain points, energy blockages can be removed. In addition, the points can be used to both balance the energy in general as well as to resolve specific conditions. This is common to other forms of acupressure as well.

Although the therapy was created thousands of years ago, it had fallen into disuse for some time. What was being marketed as Thai massage was often something that was watered down or nothing like its original form. In addition, in some areas, the term Asian massage has been used as somewhat of a euphemism implying incorrect practices thus confusing people. In more recent times, however, the traditional Thai yoga massage has achieved a comeback.

There are spas that offer this therapy but it is sometimes done on top of a massage table. You will still get benefit from this but it limits the way the protocol can be performed. If possible, it is best to get a treatment on a floor mat where you can benefit from all the stretching possible.

There are many benefits to be had from these treatments. As is typical with massage, you should feel more relaxed after your appointment. However, you will often feel energized at the same time. Circulation can improve, pains and aches can be removed and you will often feel an overall sense of better health.

Look for a practitioner of Thai massage if you have not yet had a treatment. It is worth experiencing. Some people find that they prefer them to the Swedish or relaxation massages that are more commonly offered.
