What to Wear for Yoga Class

Yoga clothes are, for the most part, much like other exercise clothes. One of the main differences of yoga clothing in particular, and one of utmost importance, is stretch. Yoga deals with a lot of movement, position changes, and stretching so you want to wear clothes that will not restrict any of these.
When looking for clothes for your next yoga class, consider these:
Perfect fit – anything too loose will distract you as you pull your yoga pants up to keep them from falling, too tight will restrict your blood flow and interfere with the proper breathing techniques that you should be doing. Most sports and exercise clothing stores allow you to fit their merchandise before you buy so be honest with yourself and buy yoga clothes that fit you perfectly.
Perfect fabric – the choice of fabric is very important in yoga because the wrong one can provide for a very uncomfortable experience. Choose fabrics that wick sweat off the body, or ones that allow the skin to “breathe” and absorb sweat.
Comfort – what’s the use of wearing to do something that requires a lot of movement if you are not comfortable in them? One of yoga’s many goals is to help you relax, and it’s difficult to do that when you’re constantly adjusting and shifting your clothes. Choose clothes that are comfortable, that you feel good in. Believe me, it’s not a shallow thing to want to have great yoga clothes.
As for specific items of clothing, it varies from person to person. Many people wear yoga pants with a t-shirt or a tank. Some wear shorts. Women may want to wear something that offers support, something like a sports bra. Also remember to try some yoga poses at home prior to wearing them to class, and do so in front of a mirror. This way you could see how the outfit moves with you or if it shifts during certain positions.
