Jivamukti yoga is a method of yoga which was created by David Life and Sharon Gannon in 1984, and which reintegrates the physical, philosophical and spiritual aspects of yoga. The Jivamukti method of yoga is one of the nine internationally recognized styles of Hatha yoga, the other eight being Ashtanga, Iyengar, Viniyoga, Sivananda, Integral, Bikram, Kripalu, and Kundalini. Yoga has been proven to benefit the body in numerous ways, by promoting flexibility and muscle development, reducing strength, and improving both emotional and mental health, it provides a truly holistic practice. Many people who begin yoga do so because they’ve heard about its amazing health benefits, and want to try for themselves. However, while any yoga practice is a great idea, it’s even better if you can maximize your success.

Aim to arrive at your yoga class several minutes early to avoid rushing and to relax into a good yoga mindset. When you rush in at the last minute, it takes much longer to get into the flow of things, and you don’t get as much from the class as you could. If you have time for a drink of water or a trip to the bathroom, and maybe time for a stretch or brief meditation, you’ll be able to start your class in the right frame of mind.

It is helpful to begin each class with an intention which you can focus on through the class. This may be something like focussing on remaining calm in situations which are usually volatile, or becoming more loving and tolerant, eating more nourishing foods, or taking more time for spiritual practices. Just make it something positive and congruent with the practice of yoga.

It’s important to let your instructor know if you’re suffering from any injury or recovering from illness, so they can advise which poses may not be suitable, and offer substitutions, and they can assist if you run into trouble. Those new to the practice of yoga need to let their instructor know, also, as there will be poses that could cause strain or injury in first timers. It is important to remember that it takes time to become proficient at yoga, just like anything else. It’s necessary to recognize and work within your limitations while you’re a beginner. Unfortunately, those who attempt too much too soon often end up doing more harm than good, which goes against the healing principles of yoga.

It’s a nice idea to take time after practicing yoga to contemplate the class. It’s all too easy to step out of the yoga class and throw yourself headlong back into the rush of life, forgetting the whole reason for doing yoga. If you can maintain the peace and serenity gained in the class for sometime afterwards, it’s very beneficial. It can take a long time for beginners to learn all the yoga poses. If a beginner can take the time to focus on remembering just one or two new poses each class, it won’t be long before they’ve mastered the basics.

Don’t eat for at least two to three hours before attending a yoga class, firstly because digestion takes energy and can make you lethargic, but also because cramps and nausea are an unfortunate result of performing some yoga poses too soon after eating (generally forward bends and twists which utilize the midsection).

Taking the right mindset and attitude to a yoga class can help you maximize your yoga practice, as can finding a beneficial intent to focus on during the class (which can also help keep your mind off worrying thoughts which will inhibit your progress). Taking the right attitude into class, and maintaining inner peace afterward can be very beneficial.

How Does The BioMat work?

The Biomat is a medical device that is designed as a healing and preventative tool which can be used in helping people improve their overall health by improving the body’s immune system, improving circulation and cardiovascular health, relieving pain, burning calories and thus assisting in weight control, easing joint pain and stiffness, reducing stress and fatigue, improving skin health, and assisting in the body’s detoxification process. It utilizes both far infrared light and negative ion technology with the healing power of amethyst crystals.

How is this achieved by the Biomat? The far infrared rays (FIR) are part of the spectrum of light that is invisible to human eyes, but are produced naturally by the sun and create heat (all living things produce some FIR). Your Meditation How-To Guide

After a disturbing day, everyone desires to unwind. Meditation could be a great way to get rid of anxiety from the day, help to bring you into a more upbeat mood, and moreover, help you to feel energized and relaxed. Meditation takes time and practice to hone, but once mastered, can be a great tool to assist in alleviating your mind of stresses and let you feel at peace.

Step one to correct meditation is good posture. Sitting cross legged with your back straight but not tensed is the correct way to sit. Then place your right hand in your left 4 finger widths below the navel, thumbs a touch raised. The thumbs are to touch. The tongue should be touching the roof of the mouth to stop dryness. Your head should be looking downward and eyes should be a touch open. Finally, your shoulders should be level with your elbows. This is the proper position to sit in when you meditate. Getting it right will help you to concentrate, though it may take a little time to get used to.

After learning your proper meditation posture, simple meditation can begin . When first beginning to meditate, concentrate on your breathing. Keep your breaths steady as you inhale and exhale. For stress relief, every time a breath is drawn outward image all the negativity and negative thoughts you have are being drawn out of you. When a breath comes in, imagine all the positive things and blessings coming to you. Concentrating on exhaling the bad and in the good will help you to start feeling peaceful and your consciousness will grow quiet.

When the art of breathing, concentration, and posture have been mastered, adding some meditation music could be a superb way to help in keeping your bad thought at bay, relaxing you, and helping you to hook up with positive thoughts that may help you to find inner peace and to coach yourself how to be positive through any situation. Meditation and the power of thoughts will help you to make your life a more positive environment that may make you more able to see what you have, set goals, and be thankful.

Meditation is a great thing. It can be relaxing, insightful, and help us to think positive thoughts that will bring inner peace and contentment. By practicing correct posture, learning to breathe, and finding the best music, then learning to channel negative thoughts away, positive meditation can being and you’ll find just how wonderful meditation can be.

Yoga Music For Meditation Series - The Word OM

LOGOS And OM

The primal vibration from which everything originates is in Christianity called the WORD. The equivalent in Hinduism is the mantra (sound word) OM. The word and OM express a universal principal, a cosmic vibration (sound) which symbolises the source of everything in existence.

The same thing is described by Pythagoras in his philosophical idea about the Music of the Spheres, where the physical sound that we can hear is seen just as a reflection of the cosmic sound, in Greek called Logos.

About Christianity And The Word

The power of the word is immense in the Christian tradition. By uttering words God creates the whole universe. “God said: Let there be light. And light came” (1st book of Moses). God says words and manifestation springs forth.

These words symbolize a form of word that come from a higher reality, in our reality called a word. The symbolism is clear and can be seen in many different spiritual traditions. Reality springs forth from a vibration or sound.

The Atom And OM

The terminology and the organization of knowledge are completely different in the Upanishads and in modern physics, but besides this fact there are lots of similarities supporting the idea that OM is the original cosmic sound vibration and source. OM is a subtle audible sound- a vibration.

When we dive into the atom we discover that all matter is in a state of vibration. That vibrations come close to our perception of sound in its poetical quality of music, is expressed by the physicist Dr. Donald Hatch, who states that the universe is not made of matter, but music gives a modern equivalent to the idea of OM as the sound of creation.

Sound And Matter

We now possess the knowledge that matter is illusory and that all matter is made up of atoms which are separated by enormous distances compared with their size. We also know that atoms themselves are not solid but consist of vibrating energy.

According to the scientist Donald Andrews complex theory of the universe, every atom sends out a main tone, a sound which via the resonance process connects itself in groups of equivalent atoms and form up molecules, which he sees as a kind of cosmic chords. By continuing the expansion, the molecules form different objects and forms in physical manifestation. Thereby any object can be seen as a living entity, made up by chords or molecules, with each their individual complex sound.

OM And Our Everyday Life

The creation myths might not only be the story of how the world once was created, but could also be a symbolic description about the process of creation that is ongoing, and which each one of us is a part of. It is the creation and maintenance of each and every little atom and the realities we are creating with our minds and emotions. And it is going on right now, not in the eternal remote past! If we manage to be in accordance with life, we will be harmonious and happy.

Matter is created by cosmic sound, Matter is cosmic sound. Matter is OM, crystallized and made physical. The universe, the earth and we only exist because the Word is continuously brought forth. Remove the Word, and only the pure empty space ” ananda (the creative void as described by the ancient yogis of India) - will be left. This is the original state of the universe before the creation.

OM In Our Spiritual Practice

Advanced practitioners of Yoga have always felt OM as real as the air that they breath. Christian mystics have long know of power of the WORD in themselves and the outside universe. They feel at a deep level the continual emanating of the word OM in the continual creation processes taking place.

We are the authors of our own universe, all our thoughts and emotions coming together in a complex symphony which either sounds harmoniously with the cosmic symphony or creates noise and tension. The choice is ours, whether we choose to play disharmonious music or whether we wish to join creation harmoniously adding our own beautiful song.

So be ever mindful of what you send out because the universe hears your song!
